The importance of self love

The importance of self love

Ladies, stop what you are doing and take a moment to sit your beautiful self down. That’s right, get a cup of tea if you like. This next 5 minutes is all for you.
The past few months have been hectic. Women have been juggling more than usual, with home, work and family life all tossed up and thrown into one bubble. The precious time that used to be put aside for a quick gym visit, dance class or coffee with friends was replaced with home-schooling, extra meal prep and stopping the dog from chewing up your smalls. *May no harm have come to your Summer Dreams Swimwear during lockdown!
Those precious moments are important because they are moments for self love. Self love is important to keep you sane! Taking even just 15 minutes a day to check in with yourself provides more than time to put your feet up. And you shouldn’t feel guilty about taking time to self love!
Many psychology studies prove that self love is key to well-being, compassion, and to keeping depression and anxiety at bay. Still skeptical or think, ‘I don’t have a spare 15 minutes!’? Keep reading. Mindful exercises in self love have been proven to lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol and increase heart rate variability, which is your body’s physiological ability to deal with stressful situations.
Setting time aside for self love allows you to tune out the rest of your bubble, put that phone on silent and … relax. In self love time (let’s call it that!) by placing yourself in a space away from others, you allow yourself to drop those shoulders and breathe. Use this opportunity to ask yourself why you feel tense. Use your self love time to unravel, tune in and ask what your body needs. Heck if it’s a bath and a glass of wine with the door locked, do it! Do your shoulders feel tight? Get on youtube and have a quick 15 minute (easy) yoga session. Yoga with Adrienne works wonders. Or, if it’s simply time to have an uninterrupted cup of tea, pet the dog and ask ‘what do I need?’ that works too.
We’ll be releasing another blog on exactly how to self love soon. For now, make a sign, stick it on your door and tell those around you that this is your time. Or go on a walk and let your mind wander. See what happens when you allow yourself time to reflect and resolve. You might surprise yourself!
